The "tree of life" appears over the world in folklore, culture and mythology relating to immortality or fertility. The tree, with its branches reaching up into the sky, and roots deep inside earth, can be seen to dwell in three worlds. The tree of life is the link between heaven, the earth, and the underworld, uniting above with the terrestrial. Both a feminine symbol, bearing fruit and a masculine, phallic symbol -in balance. Many cultures include tree worship in their early religion such as Japanese, ancient Greek, pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures (tree embodying four cardinal directions of nature as the axis mundi), Taoist (tree that produces a peach every three thousand years, eating this fruit produces immortality), Egyptian mythology (Isis & Osiris emerged from the acacia tree), Germanic paganism, in the Norse religion as Yggdrasil (huge ash tree connects earth to heaven and hell), the Kabbalah Tree of Life sprouting from the Flower of Life (basis for ten connected life nodes), and finally the tree of life is mentioned in the Books of Genesis granting immortality to Adam and Eve.
